Energy Conservation Programs
Allegheny Power’s Mercury Vapor Replacement Program
The Energy Policy Act of 2005 mandates that mercury vapor lamp ballasts shall not be manufactured or imported after January 1, 2008, and additional regulations regarding the manufacturing of mercury vapor lamps will completely eliminate their availability by 2011. These regulations are designed to promote energy efficiency and conservation with lighting installations.

Reduce your load when electric prices are high and earn money
Generation Buy-Back is a voluntary peak load reduction plan that offers financial rewards to customers who can reduce their power consumption during periods of high demand or prices. This can be achieved either by utilizing on-site generation or reducing load. The businesses, in return for agreeing to reduce energy consumption, are paid a percentage of the wholesale cost of power by credit on their next bill, which lowers overall energy costs. To date, large businesses have committed more than 78 MW of energy to the program. Commercial and industrial customers with loads of more than 300 kW and have the ability to shift periods of peak usage or have generation on-site to operate are eligible for the program.
