What is Customer Choice?

Customer choice is a statewide program that allows Pennsylvania residents and businesses to choose the company that supplies their electricity. That means you can shop for an electricity supplier the same way you shop for a dry cleaner or a supermarket, comparing prices and services and selecting the one that best serves your needs.

Allegheny Power will continue to deliver your electricity safely and reliably, regardless of the company you choose to supply it. To shop for electricity, you will need to know a few things:

  • First, you will need to know how much you are currently paying Allegheny Power for electricity. We call this your Price to Compare, which is printed on your electric bill from Allegheny Power.
  • Next, you will need to know the names of competing companies that are offering electricity generation supply in your area. You can get an updated list at any time by calling the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission at 1-888-PUC-FACT or visiting the ElectriChoice web site at www.puc.state.pa.us/utilitychoice.
  • Finally, you will need to know how much electricity you use in a typical month so you can estimate your monthly bill from different suppliers. You can find that information on your monthly electric bill from Allegheny Power.

Once you have all of the information you need, you can shop around for electricity suppliers. You can compare their prices against your Price to Compare from Allegheny Power. You can also see what services are being offered.

After you have shopped around and compared your choices, you can either switch to a new supplier or remain with Allegheny Power, which will continue to supply you with electricity at its regulated prices. If you want to switch to a new supplier, you should contact the supplier directly. Allegheny Power will continue to deliver your electricity safely and reliably, regardless of the company that supplies it.
