Customer Choice: Shopping for
a Supplier
If you live in Pennsylvania, you can choose the company that generates or supplies your electricity.
Customer choice allows you to shop among various electricity suppliers to find out what products and services they offer and compare their prices with Allegheny Powers Price to Compare. For a list of suppliers offering service to Allegheny Powers customers, click here.
Different suppliers will offer different rates and options and may require you to sign a contract for service. Before selecting a supplier, be sure you understand the rates that are being offered and any contract terms that are required. For a list of questions to ask suppliers, click here.
If you decide to choose a new supplier, here is what to do:
- Notify the supplier that you want that company to supply your electricity.
- The supplier will notify Allegheny Power that you have made your choice.
- Allegheny Power will establish your new supplier on your electricity account.
- As soon as your meter is read, you will begin buying electricity from the supplier you selected.
- Allegheny Power will continue to deliver electricity to you safely and reliably, regardless of the supplier you choose.
- Your electric bill will show both your supplier charges and the electricity delivery charges from Allegheny Power, unless you choose to have your supplier provide a separate bill for your generation charges.
Regardless of the company that supplies your electricity, you will still call Allegheny Power at 1-800-Allegheny (1-800-255-3443) if you have questions about billing, power interruptions, meters, wires, equipment, or repairs. If you have questions about your electricity supply, you should call the supplier.
If you have other questions about supplier selection, you can call the supplier, Allegheny Power, or the Public Utility Commission at 1-888-PUC-FACT. You can also access Pennsylvania's statewide ElectriChoice web site at www.utilitychoice.org.
