Shopping for a Supplier
Virginia Energy Choice will allow
you to choose the company that generates or supplies your electricity.
You can shop among various electricity suppliers to find out
what products and services they offer and compare their prices
with Allegheny Power's "price to compare," which will
be printed on your electric bill.
You will also need to know how much electricity you
use in a typical month so you can compare offers from other suppliers.
Your electricity use is also printed on your electric bill from
Allegheny Power.
Finally, you will also need the names of suppliers
who are offering service in your area. As suppliers are licensed
by the Virginia State Corporation Commission,
they will be added to a list that you can access any time by calling
the Energy Choice hotline (1-877-937-2004) or visiting www.vaenergychoice.org.
Different suppliers may offer different rates and
options and may require you to sign a contract for service. Before
selecting a supplier, be sure you understand the rates that
are being offered and any contract terms that are required.
If you decide to choose a new supplier, here is what
to do:
- Contact the supplier that you have chosen to supply
your electricity and sign up for service.
- The supplier will notify Allegheny Power that
you have made your choice.
- Allegheny Power will establish your new supplier
on your electricity account.
- As soon as your meter is read, you will begin buying
electricity from the supplier you selected.
- Allegheny Power will continue to deliver electricity
to you safely and reliably, even if you choose another supplier.
Regardless of the company that supplies your electricity,
you should still call Allegheny Power if you have questions about
billing, power interruptions, meters, wires, equipment, or repairs.
If you have questions about your electricity supply, you should
call your supplier.
