Low Income Programs
Maryland Residential Customers

Meeting overall living expenses can be a challenge for the most cost-conscious consumer. Many low-to-moderate income homeowners and renters want to install high-efficiency equipment and other energy-saving improvements in their homes, but may be reluctant to invest in upgrades because of affordability or the fact they rent their home.

Allegheny addresses cost concerns with its Watt Watchers Low-Income Home Performance Program. This program provides energy efficiency packages, home energy check-up and energy efficiency weatherization services to qualified low-income customers (up to 175 percent of the federal poverty level).

The following equipment and services are among those available to qualified homeowners and renters at no additional cost:

• Energy Conservation Education
• Ceiling, Floor, Wall, or Duct Insulation
• Energy-Efficient Lighting
• Electric Water Heater Repair or Replacement
• Air infiltration reduction

Additional Programs

Allegheny Power is proud to partner with state, local and social service agencies in Maryland to provide assistance to eligible low-income families who need help paying past due bills, or reducing the amount of future bills. There are three bill assistance programs that eligible customers can apply for in Maryland: the Electric Universal Service Program (EUSP), the Maryland Energy Assistance Program (MEAP), and the Utility Service Protection Program (USPP). These programs encourage energy conservation, financial responsibility and energy independence.
